Origins:
The "Proposición" Project was born on November 10, 1999 as
an initiative of some members of the GrULiC
with the objective of promoting government's
use of Open Technologies [1].
This initiative strongly drew inspiration from:
The name "Proposición" was selected to honour the above mentioned
French bill.
Online services:
The "Proposición" Project has available:
- a Web Site: (and
its corresponding mirror) used to compile:
- two mailing lists:
- proposicion: it is the project's main mailing
list, used as a forum for debate and information exchange related to the
Project and its objetives.
- migracion: it is a more
specific mailing list, used for debates related to migrations from closed
to open systems (implementations, experiences, projects, etc.)
Members:
Currently, the total number of members is 220 people, distributed
all across Latin America and, to a lesser degree, in the USA and Europe.
These members use the proposicion
mailing list as a communication channel to exchange information and coordinate
activities. Some of those activities include:
- to devise and promote legislative bills for the use of Free Software in
the government;
- to advise legislators and government agencies;
- to diffuse (articles, presentations, internet newsgroups, etc...);
- to engace in advocacy;
- to counteract to FUD;
- to participate in project implementation involving open technologies;
- to compile information.
